It’s a noisy mud bath at the moment. Drillers have been beset by a number of challenges but they’re still going down – half way down on the 2nd hole.
The drilling rig has now moved and work has begun on the second borehole. Baz was fitting the drill bit when I stopped by this morning and they were waiting for the reservoir to fill so they could begin drilling. They are anticipating this second hole will need to be slightly deeper than the first – they have 120m-worth of boring equipment at the ready.
Work has continued apace this past week.
When I arrived this afternoon work to widen the stairwell down to the boiler room was well underway. The old steps had been dug out down to the level of the boiler room floor, and the new retaining wall was being built. This will widen the access to the new plant room making it easier and safer to access the GSHP.
And (big Hurrah!) the borehole is now 115m deep and a good water supply has been established! The borehole has been lined and the well was being cleaned when I was there today.
Tomorrow drilling begins on the second borehole which will also be located in the north car park (in the rather unprepossessing photo below, the second borehole will be roughly where the pile of mud is!)
Work began today to widen the steps down to the boiler room which will, in due course, become the plant room for the ground source heat pump.
