Right on schedule, at 11am today we had the official ‘switch on’ attended by Kuldip Singh and Lord Carey, both of whom have supported this project from the very beginning. We generated significant media interest and had representatives from ITV/Meridian, Newbury Weekly News, Newbury Sound, Newbury & Thatcham Chronicle, and Berkshire Life magazine, in addition to BBC Radio Berkshire who visited the church on Sunday 20th February so do keep an eye out in the press this week. We would like to extend a very special thank you to the Solaris team who have worked extremely hard over the last week which enabled us to meet our deadline. It could be said that we were a demanding client (!) but Solaris have supported us and worked closely with us and we would not have reached this point without their commitment. The installation of the PV panels went smoothly and they are now busy generating electricity for St George’s despite the miserable weather today. This is a mammoth achievement for all those involved but the work doesn’t stop here. Our focus will now shift to reinforcing the roof structure and installation of the insulated ceiling and we will continue to report our progress here. Photos of today’s event will follow later.
